Lately we have been having some trouble with flies that bite our dogs’ ears. It is apparent that this is annoying to them and we want to do everything we can to help them! This is of course while doing out best to maintain as natural of a remedy as possible so as not to harm our pooches while trying to help them!
I found this great article on thenest.com with some natural home remedy suggestions!
Here are some of the tips I found most helpful from the article:
- Keep a clean yard, to the best of your ability, and remove and clean food bowls that will attract flies.
- If possible, keep your dog indoors during the hottest hours of the day.
- Use non-toxic sprays to repel flies. Make your own using diluted essential oils known to repel flies such as lavender, rosemary, and/or lemon. I would recommend doing further research on this to find recipes that work! Always consult your vet before using a commercial concoction, especially if it is not designed specifically for pets.
- Apple cider vinegar was a surprising find to me. The article recommends applying this natural fly repellant topically to your pet’s ears and face and/or adding it to their food and water.
Have you successfully tried any of these tips or do you have any tips of your own?
